The long awaited announcement updating Nintendo's 2002 release schedule has finally come. In a press release issued today, Nintendo revealed the release date of Super Mario Sunshine, the delay of StarFox Adventures, and reconfirmed earlier-released details on Eternal Darkness and the Wavebird Controller.

Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Sunshine is scheduled for release on August 26, 2002. In just five short months, GameCube owners will experience the first action-adventure platform release of Mario since Mario 64. View screens from Super Mario Sunshine.

StarFox Adventures, a joint develo
pment effort by the world-renowned game designers at RARE and Nintendo, has been delayed from its originally-scheduled June 10, 2002 release to this fall. The MSRP for the title is $49.95.

The highly anticipated Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem from second-party developer Silicon Knights will hit store
s on June 24, 2002. Rated "M" for mature by the ESRB, this game offers spine-tingling thrills for $49.95.

Meanwhile in the accessories department, Nintendo will release its WaveBird Controller on June 24, 2002 with a very affordable $39.99 sticker. The Wavebird controller will be the first wireless controller to be made standard by a first party manufacturer. The controller's title lends itself to GameCube's original "Dolphin" project name. The controller's RF signal is expected to be reliable for up to ten meters - an impressive benchmark in wireless controllers.

Nintendo intends to finally release a memory card larger than the dismal .5MB card currently available. The Memory Card 251, to be released on June 24, 2002, will offer consumers more storage capacity for saving GameCube games at a price of $19.95.
