ESRB Rating: MatureESRB Information

Overall Rating9.5 / 10

From beneath the secrets of time and space, the story of the Eternal Darkness unfolds, echoed through thirteen chosen souls. Thirteen people, their fates inextricably entwined with the destiny of the human race, fight an incomprehensible war against the malignant regime of the Ancients. From a benevolent monk during the paranoia of the Inquisition, to a Special Forces commando deep behind enemy lines, the Chosen Few find their lives torn apart by the unseen evil, and are forced to confront their fears without reward or glory. Their sacrifice will be extreme - such is the cost of saving humanity.

The human mind is a fragile thing at best and confronting the numbing power of the Ancients is no small feat. These poor souls will find the very concept of reality challenged, even fractured in the yawning maw of insanity. Some will fail, while others will brave the grim dangers of their shattered minds, experiencing effects that transcend that which is real, and that which is pure abhorrent delusion. Yet not all hope is lost. The tools at their disposal are both ancient and modern - from sophisticated technology like laser sighted automatic rifles, to the mystical powers of arcane magic. After all, not all the servants of the Ancients are immune to the edge of a sharp blade.

IGN Cube:

"Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is my favorite GameCube title to date. It is also one of my favorite videogames of all time. Does that surprise you? It shouldn't. It comes from a development studio well-versed in making deep, intriguing games, and it's a title that's been in construction for several years."

Game Spot:
"Eternal Darkness sets a new standard for the action adventure genre. Featuring a gripping story that never lets up, inventive gameplay, sky-high production values, and an attention to detail that is seldom matched, it's an experience like no other. It's a must-buy for anyone who appreciates..."

"Every couple of hours, a new adventure unfolds. Many of the stories are inter-related; a church harboring a sinister secret, for instance, is investigated by both a monk in 1485 and a French soldier in 1916. Cool, eh? The variety this setup offers is unprecedented."

Planet GameCube:
"Eternal Darkness is by far the best game for the GameCube right now, easily outdoing games like Resident Evil in terms of atmosphere, and besting other mature titles with a storyline that isnít insulting in its heavy-handedness. The first TRULY mature game from Nintendo."
